Maze Runner

Maze Runner by James Dashner is about a boy called Thomas who turns up in an encampment surrounded by a deathly maze.

Thomas is flooded by light when he comes out of a lift into 'The Glade', but when he tries to think of where or who he is, all he can remember is his first name. Like Thomas, the 'Gladers' don't know why or how they came to be in the Glade, but they know that the massive concrete walls shut at night for a reason. Adjusting to his new life he works out the way of The Glade, and he realises that there is much more to his new home. With slug-like weapon ridden creatures (Grievers) that sting you, and could potentially kill you just outside, and with a new daunting job as a Runner, Thomas knows that something big will happen soon.

When a girl shows up, people believe that Thomas is behind it, only boys are meant to come, and only once a week. Later on their supplies and weapons don't arrive so more suspicion is faced by Thomas.

Will Thomas work out what is happening before it is too late?

The Dark Blue 100-Ride bus Ticket

Carlo and his mother Jessica moved into an apartment, the next day they both go to the supermarket. In line she talks to an old lady who they think is a bit strange, to their liking. But, the old lady gives them a hundred free bus rides to the supermarket at the end of the world. They thought that was kind of her but strange that she didn't want it herself. And yet, right outside their supermarket, a number 13 bus pulls up ...dark blue and with gold stars, just like the ticket the old lady gave them. She thought  'Should I go on it or not?' She was feeling  adventurous, so Jessica and Carlo took their seats ...and nothing turns out the way they expected.

Once By Morris Gleitzman

Once, By Morris Gleitzman

I recommend this book to kids who like novels based on the events of World War Two
This book is about a Jewish boy named Felix, who lives in Poland and is on a journey to find his parents who are jewish book shop owners. He runs away from an orphanage where he has been staying and meets new friends and finds his biggest enemies, the Natzis (and Adolf Hitler).
What I really like about this book is that every chapter starts with "Once..."
It is a good story about the hard times in World War Two
The other books in the series are Then, Now and After
